Brockton Man Found Not Guilty By Insanity In Mother's Murder

BROCKTON, MA — A Brockton man has been found not guilty by reason of insanity in the stabbing death of his mother, said Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz in a news release Friday. Frantz Polynice, 23, was committed to Bridgewater State Hospital after a two-day bench trial last week, said Cruz. He faced one count of murder and two counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors say Polynice stabbed his mother, Mania Menieda, multiple times inside a home at 34 Merritt Avenue on November 30, 2016. Menieda was transported to Signature Hospital in Brockton, where she was pronounced dead. Investigators who interviewed Polynice's family discovered that he has refused to eat or drink in the days before the muderdur. His mother had also tried to het Polynice help and return him to live with an aunt in Haiti, but he refused. At trial, three experts who examined Polynice and records from before, during, and after the murder all found that he was "lacking in criminal responsibility" for the murder, said Cruz.
