STAMFORD, CT — Firefighters responded to a report of an explosion and fire at an apartment in Stamford early Sunday evening. In a news release, Captain Philip Hayes said crews first were first sent to the area of 28 or 32 Glenbrook Road before determining the correct address was actually 22 Glenbrook Road. According to Hayes, smoke was reported to be coming from a single apartment on the fourth floor of the building and additional firefighters were called to the area. Firefighters stretched hose lines up the building's interior stairs and extinguished the blaze on the fourth floor in a few minutes. Hayes said crews determined there were no civilian casualties and the fire was confined to the fourth-floor apartment, however a sprinkler was activated while crews were entering the apartment and caused extensive water damage to several apartments on the third and fourth floors. The current occupant of the apartment could not be found at the time of the incident, however no residents were in need of relocation as of Sunday evening, Hayes said. One firefighter was taken to Stamford Hospital for an incident-related condition but was later released, Hayes said. The Stamford Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire. Stamford police and EMS, as well as the Stamford Fire Mechanical Division, all provided assistance.
