Press release from the Carmel Police Department: March 28, 2021 Falling tree kills New York man in Carmel Carmel, IN - On Saturday March 27, 2021 at approximately 10:43 p.m. the Carmel Police and Fire Departments responded to the 11900 block of Westwood Dr. in Carmel, IN regarding a tree that had fallen and struck a man. Upon arrival first responders found 40-year-old Elias Smith of New York had sustained multiple injuries from the falling tree and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Witnesses on scene advised Mr. Smith was attempting to escape the storm when the tree fell and struck him.There have been numerous reports of downed trees in the area of this incident. Carmel Police and Hamilton County Emergency Management officials are working with the National Weather Service to investigate this incident.
