DELANO, CA — First Lady Jill Biden was scheduled to arrive in Delano, Calif. on Wednesday to honor Cesar Chavez's birthday. Biden will be joined by Gov. Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom.
Biden and the Newsom's will head to The Forty Acres to participate in a Day of Action with the Cesar Chavez Foundation, United Farm Workers and the UFW Foundation, the state said.
The National Historic Monument is where Chavez first raised awareness about working conditions for farmers in the late 1960s.
A bronze bust of the civil rights activist sits on President Joe Biden's desk in the Oval Office. The sculpture was sent to his office in late January.
"Placing a bust of my father in the Oval Office symbolizes the hopeful new day that is dawning for our nation," said Paul F. Chavez, Chavez's middle son and president of the Cesar Chavez Foundation said in a statement. "That isn't just because it honors my dad, but more importantly because it represents faith and empowerment for an entire people on whose behalf he fought and sacrificed."
