FREMONT, CA – Firefighters knocked down a fire at a vacant church over the weekend. On Sunday just before 3 p.m., Fremont firefighters responded to a working fire at a vacant church building on Roberts Ave. Firefighters extinguished the fire in under 30 minutes, officials said. The fire caused extensive damage to the building but firefighters were able to stop the fire before it reached two classrooms. According to officials, there was evidence of homeless people inside the building before the fire. There were no reports of injuries to firefighters or community members. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
