IREDELL COUNTY, NC — At least 14 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Iredell-Statesville Schools last week— twice that of the seven cases confirmed district wide one week prior, according to school district data. Three school district staffers and 11 students tested positive for COVID-19 last week, ISS said. None of the cases reported between March 19 and March 25 were the result of secondary spread within schools. Community spread of COVID-19 also led 284 students and 28 school district staff members to stay home either with symptoms or in quarantine out of caution between March 19 and March 25, ISS said. SEE ALSO: Iredell Schools Make Decision On Wrestling, Stadium Capacity Of the students reported as out, at least 128 were in quarantine due to a school contact, 87 were in quarantine from a possible community contact, and 69 were isolating with COVID-19 symptoms, ISS said. The number of students missing school out of concern was 94 more than the week before. Among staff members, at least 12 were in quarantine due to a school contact, eight were in quarantine from a possible community contact, and eight were isolating with COVID-19 symptoms. Overall, six more staff members were out due to COVID concerns compared to the week before, according to ISS data. As of March 26, at least 38 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Iredell County in the span of a day, increasing the county's tally of known cases to 17,284. At least 13 county residents were hospitalized Friday, and 210 deaths were attributed to the virus, according to the Iredell County Health Department.
