Description
BERKELEY, CA – Amid the height of the George Floyd protests in June, Berkeley's City Council issued a temporary ban on the use of less-lethal weapons.
The city this week will consider making the ban permanent.
The "Prohibition on the use of Certain Munitions Ordinance" commonly used by law enforcement against civilians for the purpose of crowd control.
The measure goes before the council at Tuesday's 6 p.m. meeting
The ban would include chemical irritants such as tear gas and pepper spray, smoke projectiles, acoustic weapons, directed energy weapons, water cannons, disorientation devices and ultrasonic cannons.
