ALLEN PARK, MI — A 19-year-old Taylor man has been charged in connection with a crash that killed a 107-year-old Wayne County woman.
Timothy Bieringer is charged with one count of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment or death, a five-year felony, Wayne County Prosecutors said Monday. Bieringer is expected to be arraigned in 24th District Court in Allen Park Monday afternoon.
Prosecutors have accused Bieringer of crashing a vehicle into a car the 107-year-old woman was a passenger in. The vehicle was driven by the victim's 78-year-old son, prosecutors said. The victim's name has not been released.
Police responded to reports of a crash around 2 p.m. Friday at westbound Goddard Road, near Reeck Road, prosecutors said.
The female victim was taken to a local hospital where she died, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said Bieringer ran from the scene following the crash. A bystander who saw the rash took a photo of someone prosecutors identified as Bieringer, which led police to arrest him Friday.
The Allen Park Police Department released the photo on its Facebook page and asked the public for help in locating the suspect.
