This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Facilities Director at the YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while directing and accomplishing the maintenance, cleaning, and overall improvements to buildings and grounds at both the main YMCA facility and the outdoor education center. Provides overall coordination of facility maintenance and cleaning, including planning, developing, and/or completing preventative maintenance. 2. Ensures the proper operation of all mechanical systems, including pools. 3. Manages and maintains grounds of both the main YMCA facility and outdoor education center, including snow removal. 4. Completes repair work and projects in a timely manner. Oversees contractors that work in the facility and grounds. 5. Works with outside agencies such as fire, health, building depts., etc. to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations related to facilities and grounds. 6. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs assigned staff and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates performance. 7. Advises management on maintenance and cleaning issues as well as projects, as requested. 8. Ensures that equipment is maintained and operated in accordance with the policies and procedures of the YMCA. 9. Updates facility plans periodically with members of building and grounds committee and in accordance to the YMCA’s strategic plan and community needs. 10. QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma, minimum At least 4 years of experience in facility management or closely related field Working knowledge of mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing systems, carpentry, and other maintenance-related areas. Ability to be on-call and to work various shifts or emergencies on evenings, weekends, and holidays. Skills in supervision and project management. Certified Pool Operator certification required within 6 months of hire. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations Work history that demonstrates strong work ethic, punctuality, and reliable attendance. Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator and to operate tools and equipment. Incumbents in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and inspect work sites. Incumbents must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment. Incumbents work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions. Exposure to chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes.
