There is no case for privatizing the mail service

Description

If you're going to privatize, you have to first decide whether to turn everything over to one company or throw things open to competition among multiple companies. If the former, you're just exchanging one monopoly for another, so you've gained nothing if you're anti-monopoly. If the latter, you're needlessly complicating a system that has always worked well enough in its simple form. Who wants multiple mailboxes, multiple mail trucks, multiple delivery times, multiple providers to ask for help if a piece gets lost? Furthermore, will there still be postage stamps and, if so, who will issue them? If not, what are you going to tell disappointed stamp collectors? Finally, if rates are based on distance, that adds yet another level of complexity. The best decision is to leave things as they are.
