Description
Professor needs a foster home! His story is below. Professor, the four year old Lab/Rotweiler/Hound mix, was finally caught on March 13 after having been on the run in Richmond since June 18, 2020. Originally one of the "Four Castaways" at the Isle of Wight shelter, Professor was rescued by Second Chance Habitat last June and was being fostered in Richmond when he escaped from the yard on the morning of June 18, 2020. There were many sightings of Professor over the months and traps set in different locations, but it was in December when he began coming to a feeding station near a trap in northern Richmond. A group of dedicated women put food out every night and patiently waited until he was comfortable going in a trap to get the food. They knew if they activated the trap too soon, their efforts would be lost and he may not return to that area. And so they waited...and waited....and waited...sometimes until 4:00 in the morning. But their diligence finally paid off and around 12:30 on the morning of March 13, Professor was caught and is now finally safe in a short-term foster home in Richmond. Now Professor needs a foster home locally with someone who can help socialize him with humans. He loves other dogs and seems to find more comfort in their presence but he is afraid of humans and new surroundings. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccines. To say he is a flight risk is an understatement. He will need to be carefully supervised and never left alone in a yard. And having a privacy fence is necessary since he escaped his previous foster home by jumping over a chain link fence. For anyone who is interested in fostering Professor, the rescue can provide a dog crate, food, collar, leash, harness, anything he may need during foster care. He has never shown any aggression to anyone but he is very frightened. He was so well fed, he actually gained weight during his long "lost" stint on the streets! Please respond to this ad if you are interested in fostering Professor.
