Expert guidance on growing your own food and herbs in containers; take home a plant baby in perfect time to get your own garden going. Julie Biedrzycki will share her years of experience growing all manner of plants -- from roots to vines, food to medicine, and herbs to trees -- in a container garden wonderland: In this workshop, you'll be empowered to: Understand the pros and cons of container gardening, reasons to choose this style of growing, and decide if it's the best option for your situationCreatively source affordable and/ or free non-traditional containersLearn how the basic needs and wants of a plant are impacted by the differing availability of resources in above-ground (container) vs. in-ground growing, and explore resource-management strategies such as passive wateringMake it work! Via additions, extra care, attention, and maintenanceAfter learning the ins and outs, we'll get our hands in the dirt and plant some goodness together. We'll have some seeds and seedlings on hand that you can pot and take home to work with in your new or evolving garden. Your visit to the Green Farmacy Garden will include access and an introduction to the site's medicinal herb garden as well as a brief tour and a peek at its potted tropical plants in the greenhouse where they overwinter. Masks covering mouth and nose, and physical distancing, are required while onsite. One person at a time may use the indoor restroom facilities. Two reduced-price scholarship tickets are available for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color), until maximum attendance is reached. Be sure to dress for the weather and possibility of insects. ** Potted seedlings and divisions are available for donation at all our public events, as well as seeds and printed or recorded publications from Jim and Peggy Duke and others.
