Description
Yoo, waddup Reno! This is going to be a bit of a long winded post/read so buckle in if this is for you. I am looking to start some sort of musical entourage / super group / collective of awesome people. I have been thinking of creating some sort of project but just have not known where to start, who to look for, and most importantly, what type of music / feeling / direction to go with. I love all types of music - grew up listening to a lot of metal, surf rock, jazz fusion, prog rock, hip-hop, old school house music, funk, some EDM / dubstep here and there, and hey, now I even like pop music (what up Drake and The Weeknd! Don't know why I avoided you for so long). Anyways, I've had dreams of starting progressive metal bands (Periphery, Chon, Napoleon - anybody?)....pop punk / easycore bands (The Story So Far, A Day to Remember, Abandoned by Bears, LANDMVRKS)....tappy & melodic guitar and drum focused music, maybe with some vocals (Floral, Standards, Delta Sleep, This Town Needs Guns) but have not yet, maybe that's because the time's not been right or I just didn't want to enough. Going further down that path / tangent....if I really get to the heart of what making music means to me, I realize that the real stuff, the stuff that actually means something, has to come from the heart and has to speak to whatever you're feeling, not only is it a voice but it's a release. I've come to find that feeling more often than not in soulful jazz, funk, and hip-hop music. What I want to form, I have no idea what the exact sound of the music will be, because I don't know who this will reach! That, is up to y'all to fill the void and then we can see what we can make together but for some reference, my biggest musical inspiration for this type of project would be Hiatus Kaiyote, they are an amazing blend of jazz, hip-hop, soul, funk, and a bunch of other magical stuff. The Free Nationals, BadBadNotGood, Anderson Pak, Thundercat, Saba, Chance the Rapper and Kendrick Lamar are some other influencing acts worth mentioning. The goal here would be to create our own sound of course, but I'm hoping this helps paint a sort of framework? I am old school and think to make music right, you have to do it in person and see if you can communicate / flow with each other. That being said, I have no demos or any sort of personal audio that I can put here for reference other than the musical inspirations I listed above. The hope would be that this would draw people from all over, and that we could all meet to chat / get to know each other, once I have enough responses, and then from there, take those that are willing to move forward and get into space where we can find our sound. I play guitar and a bit of drums (don't own a kit at the moment) but I think that my ideal spot in this group would be to sing, that's not to say that there wouldn't be more singers welcome. So this post would be in search of people of all realms - singing, rapping, keyboards / piano, guitar, bass, brass, drums, whatever the heck I didn't mention - you are welcome as well if you've got the spirit. I am a 26 year old male so if I am singing, a female vocalist to accompany comes to mind but that's just an idea, if you think you could add to the sound then by all means, apply here! Another thing worth mentioning is that I do not have a living space where I can play / record music or a studio that I currently occupy, so hopefully, someone here does! Musical Goals / Aspirations: The dream, would be to eventually make something serious of this, of course, once things are back to normal, with aspirations to write and record an album(s) and to tour / record live performances to put online (like Audiotree) but the intention would just be to meet some great people who share the love for music that I do. If at the very least, we just meet some new musicians out of this, cool! If, further than that, we're able to vibe and make something beautiful, then fuck yeah! And, going on, if we're all serious and committed enough to take it the whole way, then I will cry tears of joy, but hey, no pressure. Alright, I think that is all. I will keep this post up for a host of weeks and will plan to take it down after I've received enough responses over the next month or so. Til then, look forward to meeting / hearing from you. Don't hesitate to reach out with further questions / ideas. Cheers, Aidan
