LOOKING for Lab Companion

I'm looking for a companion for my labrador. His best friend was an Australian Cattle dog that moved to CA. I'm looking for a small to medium breed (20-50 lbs) along the lines of a dachshund, corgi, beagle, Australian cattle dog, poodle, etc. Cannot have any of the breeds usually considered "aggressive" (ie. Pitt Bull, German Shepherd, Husky, Akita, etc). I prefer a male and puppy or younger dog so that I can train them right from the start. I'm not interested in breeding so whatever dog I adopt will be neutered as soon as possible. I don't care about pedigree or papers. I found my Lab on the side of the road 10 years ago and he's been the best companion a man could ask for. I would rather give a dog in need a home than support a puppy mill.
