WELD COUNTY, CO — A man was shot and later died in an officer-involved shooting in rural Weld County Friday evening, according to officials. Police were chasing the man and retuned fire when he shot at them as he ran away, according to the Weld County Sheriff's office.
Police were called to a home in the 260,000 block of WCR 70 around 5:45 p.m. for a reported disturbance. A woman told police she was assaulted by a man who was still inside the house with several guns.
According to police, the man left the house and ran away. While chasing him, officers unsuccessfully tried to stop him with a bean bag, the statement said, and the man fired at least one shot in their direction. In response, multiple sheriff's deputies returned fire, hitting the man.
The man was taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said, adding that no officers were injured.
The names of the man and the deputies involved are being withheld since the investigation is ongoing.
