LOS ANGELES, CA — An 11-year-old boy chasing an ice cream truck was severely injured by a hit-and-run driver in South LA Wednesday, and police are asking for help finding the driver who hurt him.
The man driving a gray or beige 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe SUVstruck the boy on 42nd Street just east of McKinley Avenue on Wednesday at about 4 p.m. he ran across the street to catch up to the ice cream truck, according to a police statement.
The driver of the SUV stopped and exited the vehicle to check on the boy, but he didn't stay at the scene to render aid or wait for the police. Instead, he returned to his SUV and fled.
The boy sustained severe injuries and was taken to a hospital by the Los Angeles Fire Department, according to police.
The driver of the SUV was described as a man in his 30s who is 5-feet- 9 inches to 6-feet tall. The SUV bears the California license plate number 6SEZ288, and an investigation showed the vehicle was reported stolen by the LAPD Rampart Division on Sunday.
