VALLEJO, CA — Two construction workers helping to rebuild a bridge in Vallejo on Friday discovered two people living beneath it. The pair reportedly had been staying in a cave dug into an embankment, according to multiple reports.
The two people, who were unnamed, had been living in a cave about 20 feet long and 3 feet high, the Associated Press reported. They were reportedly removed and relocated, officials said.
Construction workers heard voices just before discovering the residents of the cave, Tom Walker, project manager for Vallejo, told the San Francisco Chronicle.
"We called in the police and fire departments to make sure we didn't injure anyone" in relocating the two people, Walker said. "It's a rescue operation."
