Legalizing pot...

Description

Let me start by saying that I personally do not drink or smoke pot. I have no horse in this race. But why on earth would we allow alcohol to be legal and pot to be outlawed? You never see people who are stoned getting in bar fights or being obnoxious at a party. You don’t see pot smokers puking on the sidewalk outside of bars. Stoned people do not stagger down the streets late at night arguing over nothing. Pot smokers are far less prone to violence and beating their spouse than drinkers. In many cases, marijuana actually has medicinal properties. Unless you are sterilizing a wound, alcohol has no medicinal benefits. Legalizing weed would deflate the black market for it. Legalizing weed nationally would take power and funding away from drug cartels. Legalizing pot would reduce crime. Legalizing pot would also free up our courts. It is extremely expensive to process pot crimes and incarcerate people for using or selling a substance that is far safer than alcohol. Billions of dollars could be saved each year nationwide. Pot could be taxed to generate revenue. If pot was legalized, it would create countless jobs in America. Perhaps as many as the alcohol industry creates. Is there a down side to legalizing pot? As a non pot smoker it makes great ensue to legalize it. I also do not like the idea of our government choosing what I can and cannot consume. It’s none of the feds business if I want to smoke. Less government interference in my life is good... I say: either legalize pot or outlaw alcohol and tobacco.
