Framingham Libraries Reopening After Year Of Pandemic Hibernation

FRAMINGHAM, MA — For the first time since the coronavirus pandemic began, Framingham's two library buildings will open to the public for browsing. The downtown and McAuliffe branches will both open on April 5, according to city officials. Patrons will still have to wear masks and practice social distancing. The libraries will also continue to offer pandemic-era services like curbside pickup and computer appointments. The main branch will be open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The McAuliffe branch will be open 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Both branches are closed on Sundays. The library system did open over the summer for computer appointments inside buildings, but not for general browsing. Coronavirus cases have leveled off in Framingham since a second surge this winter. However, cases have been on the rise in recent weeks, matching a statewide trend.
