Description
ARLINGTON, MA — The Department of Planning and Community Development and the Transportation Advisory Committee will discuss safety improvements along the Chestnut Street corridor, specifically around the crosswalk at Chestnut Terrace.
The crosswalk was the site of a fatal pedestrian crash on New Year's Eve 2019. Officials will examine short- and long-term changes for the street and consider feedback from residents through a survey and listening session on Tuesday, March 30.
The goals of the project are to improve the safety for all roadway users in the area; reduce speed of vehicles through the corridor; and increase the comfort of vulnerable road users, specifically people walking and bicycling.
After collecting community feedback, the Transportation Advisory Committee expects to determine final recommendations at its May or June meeting that will be sent to the Select Board with short-term improvements to be implemented as soon as possible.
Tuesday's listening session will begin at 7 p.m. Register here.
A survey is also available which shows different options being considered to help improve safety. Fill out the survey by Wednesday, April 14. Paper copies of the survey can also be found in the vestibule of the Robbins Library lobby.
For questions about this listening session or to request a copy of the survey and proposed recommendations, please contact Daniel Amstutz, Senior Transportation Planner, at [email protected] or 781-316-3093. Additional information may be found on the Transportation Advisory Committee's website.
