ORANGE, CT — Ansonia resident Andre Tinney, 38, one of two drivers in a two-car crash in Orange on March 18, has died, Orange Assistant Police Chief Max Martins confirmed to Patch on Thursday. Tinney died on Tuesday night, and the police department was told of it on Wednesday. He had to be extricated from his vehicle before he was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he died. According to police, Tinney was driving a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville at about 4 p.m. when his vehicle collided with a 2018 Mazda 3 driven by Samuel DeBerry, 26, of Hamden. Tinney was exiting Mapledale Road to turn left onto Derby Avenue westbound, and DeBerry was traveling eastbound on Derby Avenue when the crash occurred. DeBerry and passengers in both vehicles also were hurt in the crash, but those injuries were not considered a threat to their lives. "The investigation is progressing but all serious/fatal motor vehicle collision investigations take quite some time to complete as they routinely involve reconstruction and toxicology reports," Martins said. "We are still looking to speak to anyone that might have witnessed the collision." Anyone with any information about the crash is urged to contact Orange Police Detective Carolyn Bailey at 203-891-2130, extension 8246; reference Case #21-8655.
