PRINCETON, NJ — School teachers and staff in Mercer County now have the opportunity to get vaccinated, thanks to their union and the association of school superintendents. The Mercer County Education Association (MCEA) and the Mercer County Association of School Administrators (MCASA) has partnered with Gov. Phil Murphy's office, Walgreens, and Hamilton Township to provide a pop-up vaccination site exclusively for educators on Saturday. Around 1000 vaccines to be administered, and another 1000 on April 3. In keeping with the Pfizer vaccine schedule, the second dose is scheduled for April 17 and 27. "The teacher vaccination sites are a huge undertaking and are the direct result of a close partnership between the teachers and school district administrators in Mercer County," Tom Smith, President MCASA and Superintendent of Hopewell Valley Regional School District, told Patch. Smith said that in the absence of a state-wide, systematic plan for educators, the union and superintendent's association cut through the "red-tape" and worked together to make the pop-up site happen. "We all want our students and staff back to in-person school in the safest environment possible and this is an exciting step to get us there," he said. The site is at Crockett Middle School in Hamilton Township, Mercer County 2631 Kuser Rd Hamilton, NJ 08691. MCEA volunteers will help teachers and staff with registration. The MCEA and MCACA thanked the Hamilton Township Public School administration, school Superintendent Scott Rocco, Hamilton Township Mayor Jeff Martin, and Hamilton Township Chief of Police James M. Stevens for helping to coordinate the event. "We were also assisted in cooperation by the Hamilton Township Town Council," they said in a statement. Thank you for reading.
