Description
WHEATON, IL — Community Unit School District 200 approved plans Wednesday for elementary and middle school students to resume full-time, in-person instruction. Middle school students will start the new schedule April 12 and elementary school students will make the change April 15
The decision comes after updated guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) that prioritizes in-person instruction. The new guidelines recommend a minimum of three feet of social distancing between masked students and fully vaccinated staff members.
Additionally, school capacity limits for in-person learning are now defined by "the space's ability to accommodate social distancing," according to ISBE.
District 200 elementary school students who opt for in-person instruction will be in class from 9:35 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Kindergarteners who are in the A.M. session will attend class from 9:35 a.m. to 12 p.m. and those in the P.M. session will attend school from 1:05 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Middle school students will attend classes from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
"While transitions are not easy, each transition has opened up more opportunities for students. We sincerely and genuinely appreciate the partnership with our students, parents and staff," district officials said in an update.
