Chatham Borough's New Radar Speed Signs Collect Data For Police

CHATHAM BOROUGH, NJ — Chatham Borough police installed four new radar speed signs Thursday. The signs will collect data to help authorities deploy officers and resources "more objectively and responsibly," said Chief Brian K. Gibbons. Police placed two signs on Lafayette Avenue and two at Hedges Avenue. While the signs tell drivers their speed, they also help police track volume and other data. The signs will serve as a "gentle reminder" for drivers, a news release from Chatham Borough police said. They'll warn drivers with a color-coded message when they're going too fast. This is the second round of Evolis Radar Speed Signs the borough installed. The first two were placed on N. Passaic Avenue. The department will order special enforcement details when data indicates aggressive driving, allowing police to cite drivers who disregard the speed limits. Thanks for reading.
