Press release from Pleasanton Unified School District: March 26, 2021 Following a successful State Career Development Conference, Foothill DECA brought home 83 awards, including top 10 in roleplay and written events. Ten students are advancing to the virtual International Career Development Conference in April after placing in the top five for their roleplay or written events. The virtual conference had three components: industry-validated cluster exams, roleplay presentations, and long term written business plans. In the first week, students took their tests and uploaded their presentations for each event. Following a ten day judging period and fun conference activities, Foothill DECA members were recognized out of over 900 students across California. One member, Kate Clifford, succeeded in both her events and qualified to ICDC as a sophomore. "I really enjoyed participating in this year's CDC," she described, "We had so much fun competing together and it was a great experience!" The chapter was also awarded for a variety of outreach, community service, and leadership development events. Receiving Gold Level recognition in the Chapter Awards Program and THRIVE Level in its Chapter Campaigns, Foothill DECA has qualified for multiple spots in the prestigious ICDC academies. Chief Financial Officer Angela Chen describes the conference as "a great experience, giving us all an opportunity to demonstrate the business skills we've gained. It was so exciting to see our chapter's hard work pay off, through both our chapter campaigns and competition. As a senior, I'm very grateful for the life lessons I've learned in DECA, and for the memories and friends I've made along my DECA journey." Some members of the chapter placed in multiple events. For example, DECA's Vice President of Chapter Management Jason Yu and his partner, Michael Zong, qualified through the Stock Market Game, their written plan, and their roleplay. He described the conference as an "interesting experience" which "required a lot of adapting." Working with Director of Training, Emma Lin, to put together the successful conference, he was "glad that a lot of competitors were able to do well." The State Career Development Conference was an excellent culmination to the chapter's efforts, showcasing members' planning and presentation abilities. In the virtual setting, these amazing students have gained core interview and career skills which will benefit them for the rest of their lives. Best of luck to students advancing to the international stage! Foothill DECA will host its annual Talent Show virtually on April 13th from 7-9 PM. The fun and free event will feature many acts by students, teachers, and members of the community. To sign up, go to bit.ly/fdtalentshow.
