Walgreens Set To Open COVID-19 Clinics At Amtrak: Report

DEERFIELD, IL — Employees of Amtrak who have not yet had a chance to get vaccinated for COVID-19 might soon be in luck. Walgreens Boots Alliance, the parent company of Walgreens, announced Thursday it will be opening its first corporate COVID-19 vaccine clinics at some Amtrak offices in early April, according to an exclusive story by Reuters. The Deerfield-based company is hoping to vaccinate "large numbers" of Amtrak employees and said the clinics will be similar to those previously run for flu vaccinations. The clinics will be run by Walgreens' pharmacists and technicians, according to Reuters. Walgreens Boot Alliance oversees 9,277 Walgreens and Duane Reade stores in the U.S. "We run a 24/7/365 operation providing intercity rail service across 46 states so all of our employees are considered essential workers under most eligibility guidelines," Amtrak said in a statement. Walgreens told Reuters it has tested more than 400,000 U.S. corporate employees at least 14 different companies since the beginning of the pandemic.
