Pop-Up Pantry To Feed 1,000 Families Monday In Aurora

AURORA, IL — Residents can stop by Aurora's Phillips Park on Monday morning to pick up groceries from the City of Aurora's eighth pop-up food pantry. The City of Aurora is partnering with the Northern Illinois Food Bank and the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry to provide free food boxes to 1,000 families at 9 a.m. Monday in Phillips Park, 1000 Ray Moses Dr., according to a news release. Tech Company Opens New HQ In Aurora, Plans To Hire Hundreds Food boxes will include fresh meat, dairy and produce, the release states. Residents do not have to show ID to receive food boxes but should expect lines to form early for the drive-thru distribution. Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin said city officials have worked with local pantries over the past year to provide groceries to more than 11,000 families, with food insecurity "a major concern throughout the pandemic." Police Chief Named New Kane County Treasurer The city will continue to hold monthly pop-up pantries though the summer to help families who "will face a resumed financial burden" once moratoriums on evictions and utility shutoffs expire, Irvin said. "While we see the light at the end of this COVID tunnel, the reality is we are still in the tunnel," Irvin said in the release. City officials are seeking student volunteers, who can earn credit for spring break community service, the release states. Students can register to volunteer here.
