Description

Owl Pellet Dissection at Palmer Park! Did you know there are owls in the woods of Palmer Park? Urban forests provide wonderful habitat to many creatures, so join us as we learn about the ecology and eating of habits of these magical birds through examining owl pellets. Owl Pellets are the undigested parts that the bird regurgitates. They are a fascinating way to examine what the owl has consumed and can include exoskeletons of insects, and the bones, fur, and teeth of small prey animals. This is a family friendly event and everyone who attends can get their own pellet to examine. Due to the small bones in the pellets, parent/guardian supervision is required and this event is suggested for youth over 5 years of age. This event will be distanced and outdoors and pre-registration is required to attend. Please reserve the number of spots for your entire group because we are capping attendance due to COVID considerations. Please wear a mask and stay home if you feel any COVID symptoms or have had an exposure in the last 14 days. The Detroit Nature and Exploration Center is located at the NE corner of Palmer Park at the intersection of W 7 mile and Woodward. The parking lot is located off W 7 mile, just west of Woodward. Look for a green building.
