Description
Hey all. Bassist, 44, with 20+ years experience in a variety of styles, looking to join up with a band or start a new one after May 1 (I’ll be fully vaxed then). I’m looking to make this a committed hobby, not a lifestyle, so that means no touring outside of the occasional out of town show, maybe a weekend here and there. Looking to rehearse 1 night/week and gig 1-2 times/month, somewhat negotiable, depending on the situation and timing.
Original bands: I love writing to other people’s ideas, and I have tons of song starters that are waiting for collaboration to turn into full songs. No particular genre, vibe is more important. I’m down with both structured and jam-oriented songs. My bass influences include Robert Deleo (STP), Justin Chancellor (Tool), Robert Mercurio (Galactic), John McVie (Fleetwood Mac), and more recently, Bobby Vega. So mostly groove and pocket. I play slap bass like Taco Bell is Mexican food, so don’t expect that to work well unless you have really questionable taste.
Cover bands: Not interested in classic rock, blues, or predictable setlists. More interested in playing B-sides and less frequently-covered songs, or changing songs into something different from the original. I know that can limit the audience and number of gigs a bit, but I’d prefer that to playing the same tired setlist as everyone else.
Gear? Check. Reliable transportation? Check. Able to contribute to band expenses? Check.
As for booze, weed, etc., I don’t care as long as it doesn’t turn you into an asshole or a flake.
I can provide some recordings and a live video or two from pre-COVID times. Would appreciate if you had something to share as well, even if it’s just ideas you threw down on your phone.
