Description
Rescuing Leftover Cuisine is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that bridges the gap between excess available food and those who need it through our network of volunteer Food Rescuers.
We need Food Rescuers in Hyannis and surrounding areas to help us transport food from our donor partners to local homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and other human service agencies in our communities. Each food rescue event typically takes less than an hour. Rescues may be completed by public transport, by personal vehicle, on foot and even by bicycle. (Suggested transportation often varies). Food Rescuers use our online calendar to find food rescues that work with their schedule and location. With just an hour of your time, you can help reduce food waste and provide meals to those who need it most!
We currently have a number of human service agencies in Hyannis that are interested in receiving food, and now we need to find enough volunteers to meet the demand. Once we have enough volunteers signed up, we will start reaching out to local food establishments (restaurants and supermarkets) to donate excess food and prepared meals. Because this is a new venture on the Cape, you might not see any events listed for a month or so after you sign up. But by signing up, and volunteering down the road, you will play an important role in bringing this service to your neighborhood.
