APPLY ONLINE:  WORK HOURS: Regularly scheduled for 16 hour shifts, may be required to work additional hours due to occasional urgent vessel needs. Shipyard duties to be fulfilled as required or assigned.JOB DESCRIPTION: Performs all functions of Factory Trawler deck operations, safety and gear work under direct supervision of Bosun or Captain/Mate in charge of bridge on duty.Signals workers such as Combis to move, hoist, or position nets and equipment safely as required to haul and set fishing gear and equipment.Understands and is compliant with prohibited species handling regulations, including deck sorting procedures according to EFP.Attaches slings, hooks, and other lifting devices to cables, trawl equipment and nets as required to safely haul, empty, repair and set fishing gear at sea in all weather conditions.Safely operate cranes, winches or other lifting equipment according to manufacturer specifications to bring aboard and move equipment on deck as necessary.Understands Safe Working Load for each crane onboard vessel.Complies with all company and vessel safety regulations and proceduresTrains Combi personnel in safe and efficient deck operation procedures.Safely operates skiff to transport crew, supplies or equipment at sea or in port.Makes repairs and adjustments to fishing gear and other trawler deck equipment as needed.Secures and removes vessels docking lines to and from docks and other vessels.Prepares vessel for shipyard arrival and departure, to include spill equipment, oil booms and gangway secure for use.Participates as member of fire and safety team in emergency situation.Works in processing factory when not engaged in deck operations.QUALIFICATION:Able Bodied Seaman MMC preferred or ability to obtain within 3 years.Crane Operator experience preferred.Experience working in a Combi or Deckhand position on a commercial fishing vessel preferred.North Star Fishing Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer - Minority / Women / Disability / Veteran / Gender Identity / Sexual Orientation / Age.All crew are required to quarantine for 14 days and have a negative COVID test prior to traveling to Alaska to join the vessel.
