17th near Union Square West, New York City NY
Description
We are having a vegan event in Union Square Park on April 11. It is in its 14th year. It entails vegan speakers, performers, and we will have a few tables with literature. It is going to be a lot of fun and we are following Covid guidelines per the City of NY Parks Department who granted our event permit. All volunteers will be required to attend a mandatory meeting before the event at 11 a.m. sharp the day of the event, April 11, in the north end of Union Square Park, where you will receive a tee shirt that we will provide and you get to keep. We need the following volunteers: (4) people the city designates as Covid Police. They will make sure we don't have too many people in the event space. Basically you stand around for 2 hours and mingle. We will probably give you a sign to carry that is about animal rights so you can be a positive 'message' holder for people that pass by. There are two different time slots for this: noon - 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (1) person to manage the sound system. You will have a chair and table near the mic stand. Previous experience preferred. We have a very simple digital mixer that is very automated but this person do things like play music (we provide the list), then stop music when a speaker is on, play music again... that kind of thing. We will pay $60 for this position. The speakers are portable so you will be responsible for paying attention to the sound system and that nothing gets taken. This person should be responsible and reliable. They will be manning the sound booth the entire time, from noon to 4 p.m. of course with breaks as needed. (4) Speakers, performers, rappers, or spoken word poets. The theme of the event is veganism so it should be within this theme. We will be videotaping the event so you will have the video for your social media. You will need to submit a cover letter discussing what you will be talking about, and a sample youtube video of you speaking or performing in order to be considered. One man musical acts especially encouraged (rappers and spoken word poets with beats in the background), must provide own music. (4) People to make creative animal rights signs and bring them to the event. You will need to make two signs (on posterboard or otherwise) about animal rights. One for you to carry and one for another volunteer to carry. You will just add to the festivities by having your creative signs there. It is preferred that these people dress up like fruits or veggies or animals or something with a vegan/fun theme. These people should be friendly and smiley and enjoy dressing up and sharing their creativity. Thank you kindly. We look forward to hearing from you. When responding, please be clear about what position you would like to do. We will be providing tee shirts to everyone that volunteers that you will be able to keep. It may be cold that day so you'll need to wear a long sleeve black shirt underneath the tee.
