HINGHAM, MA — A Plymouth man has been accused of stealing over $63,000 worth of copper, wiring, and tools from a building under renovation in Hingham, said the Hingham Police Department in a news release. Michael J. Ryan, 40, was arrested early Monday morning at his home following a three-week investigation into the March 1 theft at the construction site at 100 Industrial Park Road, said police. He is facing charges including, breaking and entering, larceny, vandalism, trespassing, and drug possession. Investigators say Ryan broke into the site by shearing off the hinges to a locked gate and then putting them back in place. He then allegedly used a vehicle and trailer to enter the building, spray painted the windows, and used an on-site forklift and mechanical lift to remove and steal copper piping and electrical wire. Ryan is accused of stealing approximately $27,500 worth of plumbing materials, $18,700 worth of electrical materials, and $17,250 worth of tools and causing over $13,000 in damages. Police say Ryan was booked at Hingham Police Department and arraigned at Hingham District Court Monday. The incident remains under investigation.
