BEVERLY, MA — Beverly Hospital is donating $100,000n to five North Shore community groups that help residents with housing stability, the digital divide and job training amid the coronavirus health crisis and beyond. The grants, awarded in conjunction with Addison Gilbert Hospital as part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, were based on selections from a committee of hospital leaders and board members and community-based organizations on the North Shore. "As a community hospital, our No. 1 priority is serving the vital health care needs of our extended family, friends, and neighbors in the towns that we call home," Phil Cormier, president of Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals, said. "Too often, our citizen's healthcare is affected by housing insecurity, unemployment or underemployment and other factors. "Investing in local organizations helps to strengthen the communities in our service area and improve the quality of the lives of its residents." Those receiving the grants include: Cape Ann Mass in Motion, which partners with the Gloucester Housing Authority and Gloucester Council on Agin to provide long-term care facilities on Cape Ann with access to the internet. Centerboard's HOPE Program, which seeks to increase access to permanent housing and prevent homelessness in Lynn and on the North Shore. These funds will allow Centerboard to provide emergency housing to 35 families as they transition to safe, permanent housing. Greater Lynn Senior Services, which has developed virtual programs to alleviate social isolation and provide tools for health monitoring, self-management and education. These funds will support Project Uniper, which assists seniors in using telehealth through their televisions. The YMCA of Metro North, which will use the grant to fund the new Herring Community Technology Center providing internet access to low-income, senior, youth and Spanish-speaking Lynn residents. Wellspring House, Inc., which provides educational and career services to more than 100 students enrolled or recently graduated from its programs. Beverly Hospital, part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, is a full-service 221-bed community hospital founded in 1888 that serves more than 13 communities across Massachusetts' North Shore and Cape Ann.
