"This framework recognizes the arts-and-culture community, which has been hard hit by the pandemic. As soon as it's safe and practical, it will allow the arts community to get back into the community," Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine told the Select Board on Monday, March 22. The plan -- developed jointly by the Department of Planning and Community Development, the Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture and the Arlington Economic Development Recovery Task Force - was unanimously received by the Select Board that night. "However, we need to go through a few more paces with the Board of Health and Park & Recreation Commission before getting approval. We'll iron out these details in the next week or two and then bring it back to the Select Board," added Chapdelaine. Lawn signs promote Blue Jean Ball Meanwhile, be on the lookout for lawn signs advertising the Arlington Center for the Arts' (ACA) annual Blue Jean Ball, held virtually this year. For more, click here >> "Our goal is to promote awareness in the hope that people then go home and buy tickets," said Tom Formicola, ACA executive director. To publicize this year's April 10 virtual fund-raiser, 20 lawns signs are placed in well-trafficked areas of town, as unanimously approved by the Select Board. Locations for the 18 - by 24-inch signs include Arlington Center along Mass. Ave., Uncle Sam Plaza, the Minuteman Bikeway and when entering the town from Cambridge and Lexington. Starting at 7:30 p.m., the Blue Jean Ball will feature live music, dancing, awards and a silent auction. This year's theme is "Our Town," celebrating Arlington's many treasured elements. "The Blue Jean Ball is something we look forward to every year. It's one of the premiere events at Town Hall, and hope it can be held there next year," said Board Chair John Hurd.
