MIDDLETOWN, CT — The Alabama woman accused of shooting and killing a man during a domestic violence incident earlier this month told police she did so in self-defense, according to the Middletown Press. Melody Jean Christensen, 44, was arrested March 4 on charges of murder and illegal discharge of a firearm. The arrest stems from a domestic violence incident that happened around 11 p.m. on March 1 in Middletown when police responded to a call for shots fired at an undisclosed address, according to officials. Police found that two people had been shot, including Christensen. The other person involved in the incident was found with gunshot wounds and taken to Middlesex Hospital where he died from his injuries, according to police. The Middletown Press reports Christensen told police the two had been arguing and scuffling and she shot him after he hit her multiple times. The autopsy concluded that the man had been shot seven times and his injuries appeared to be "defensive in nature," according to the Press. Christensen is being held in lieu of a $1.5 million bond. She hasn't entered a plea and her next court date is April 21, according to state judicial records. For more arrest warrant details, visit the Middletown Press here.
