NEWPORT, RI — The City of Newport has a new harbormaster. Stephen Land will take over the position, which was left vacant after longtime Harbormaster Tim Mills died suddenly in December.
Land, the former Block Island harbormaster, was selected for the job after a three-month, nationwide search, the city said.
"No stranger to destination harbors, Land will be hitting the water on Monday, April 12 to prepare for what we're expecting to be a busy 2021 summer season," the city said.
The former harbormaster was posthumously named Newport's Employee of the Year for 2020 in early March. His wife, Anne, accepted the award on his behalf.
