BALDWIN PARK, CA — An hours-long standoff in Baldwin Park ended Thursday morning with the arrest of a 27-year-old man suspected in the bludgeoning death of a 70-year-old woman. The six-hour standoff in the 3000 block of Mangum Street came to an end early Thursday morning when the suspect was taken into custody by a Los Angeles Police Department SWAT Team and crisis negotiators. At about 4:30 a.m., the department announced the suspect was in custody. He was treated for dog bites at a local hospital before being booked on suspicion of murder, Lt. Derrick Alfred told Fox11. Poice had responded to a report of a man attacking someone with a stick shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday. When Baldwin Park Police Department officers arrived, they found three victims outside a home, including a 70- year-old woman who was unresponsive in the yard, according to Deputy James Nagao. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and two additional victims, a man and woman, were taken to a hospital, where they were treated and released. Officers were directed to a rear house on the property where the 27- year-old suspect had barricaded himself inside. A motive for the killing was not disclosed. The names of the suspect or victims were not immediately available. City News Service contributed to this report.
