SAN DIMAS, CA — A woman and her dog were stabbed to death Thursday near a San Dimas park and a man was taken into custody. The attack occurred in the 1400 block of Renwick Street near Lone Hill Park about 1:35 p.m., according to Deputy Shawn Du Busky of the Sheriff's Information Bureau. The victim, whose name and age were not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene. A motive for the attack was unclear. Tony Page told CBS2 that his son-in-law was the initial target of the attack. Page's son-in-law parked his truck and was walking through the park toward a public restroom when he saw a man walking toward him with a knife, Du Busky said. Page's son-in-law ran back to his car and the man chased him before turning his attention to the woman who was walking her dog. The man grabbed the dog's leash from the woman's grasp and stabbed the dog, Du Busky said. "The guy started attacking the lady who was walking her dog, started killing the dog with the knife, then turned the knife on her and started killing her," Page told CBS2. Page's son-in-law got out of his car and hit the man in the head with a rock as he was stabbing the woman, rendering him unconscious, according to Du Busky. Arriving deputies took the man into custody. He was taken to a hospital where he will be evaluated for head injuries before being taken to the San Dimas Sheriff's Station and booked for murder, Du Busky said. The suspect's name was not immediately released. Anyone with information on the killing is asked to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be called into Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477. City News Service
