CORONADO, CA — The San Diego Humane Society on Wednesday evening released a barn owl that had been in its care since it was found struggling to fly in the cold rain in January. In a news release, the humane society said the owl was found injured near a warehouse in Coronado Beach on Jan. 25. The owl was found by two public service workers in Coronado and brought to the humane society's Pilar & Chuck Bahde Wildlife Center. There, it was given a warm place to recover, along with fluids, nutrition and blood tests to ensure it was safe to reenter the wild, according to the release. The owl was released at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday in Spreckles Park, which is near where the bird was first found sick. The humane society said its goal was for the owl to perch in a tree and sort out her home territory. The owl's release can be viewed online.
