Description
I'm a pretty seasoned guitarist looking for other musicians (bassist, drummer, and probably another guitarist) to play some post rock/instrumental/ambient stuff, make friends with, and eventually start gigging. A bit about me: I've been playing guitar for a little over 20 years, and have been in a number of different bands ranging from alt rock, to punk, to shoegaze/post rock. My stuff is very melodic and effects-driven, with lots of delay and looping that often delves into wall-of-sound layers. This is juxtaposed with my love and fascination with pop music, and what/why humans find it catchy. When it comes to playing with others, I'm very open and collaborative; I'm serious about what we're doing, but I'm also about keeping it lighthearted and fun. I'm a huge gear head, and love talking shop about guitars, amps, effects, and playing techniques. Check out my soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/dave-russell-jr) for some songs from my last band to get an idea of where my head's at. I've learned throughout years of playing with others that I'm not good at pretending to be something I'm not. With that in mind, understand that:
- I'm not good at "let's jam in the key of ____" (the only keys I have are to my car and my apartment)
- I don't shred
- I'm not into theory
- I don't deal with pretentious assholes.
My influences include, but are not limited to, Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, El Ten Eleven, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Black Sabbath, Sigur Ros, Tom Morello, At the Drive-In, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Death From Above 1979, And So I Watch You From Afar, Silversun Pickups, Pink Floyd, Tool, Battles, Pelican, and Radiohead.
Equipment-wise, I'm using self-built Les Paul, a Spark amp, Whammy pedal, Crybaby, MXR Micro Amp, Boss DD-8 delay, TC Electronics Flashback delay/looper, Ibanez DFL flanger, and an EH Smallstone phaser.
Still reading after all that and might be interested in playing some music? Hit me up, and let's see where things go.
