Falcons' Crest Provides Show Atop Peabody City Hall

PEABODY, MA — Peabody's newest "It" couple is a rare breed, indeed. The state Division of Fisheries & Wildlife confirmed to Peabody Mayor Ted Bettencourt that a pair of Peregrine falcons — one of only 42 known pairs statewide — has taken up residence atop Peabody City Hall for what are believed to be forthcoming new additions to the falcon clan. The birds, known for their extraordinary speed of flight, are listed among species of "Special Concern" in the state due to their endangered nature. Bettencourt said local falcon trackers have made observations that indicate the falcons are expecting baby falcons in the "very near future." In the meantime, they will have a penthouse view of the sights of the city. "To help ensure the health and safety of the newborn Peregrine(s), the Division of Fish & Wildlife has built a nesting box with a terrific view of downtown Peabody," Bettencourt posted on social media.
