The Cat Connection Readies for April 5 Opening at 167 Chestnut Hill Avenue BRIGHTON and WALTHAM, Mass.—The Cat Connection (TCC), which adopts cats into forever homes throughout Greater Boston, today announced an opening date of April 5, 2021 for their new Brighton shelter at 167 Chestnut Hill Avenue. Over the past 18 months, Shelter Director Stephanie Yemma has overseen every aspect of its design and construction with cats’ health and happiness in mind. “This is a shelter like no other—where we give kittens generous play space and have configured every square inch to align with their natural behaviors and needs,” said Ms. Yemma. The TCC shelter will extend the services of the nonprofit, volunteer-run organization headquartered in Waltham, which fosters and adopts out more than 100 cats per year, and cares for local feral colonies. Nationally, pet adoptions tracked by Shelter Animals Count rose approximately 15% from 2019-2020. The new facility will help TCC meet burgeoning demand. “The opening of our first shelter is a 21-year dream, and Stephanie has been fastidious about ensuring that every detail is perfect,” said Morgan Ritz, President. “From the pods to the overflow rooms, the facility offers a wonderful environment for cats and kittens transitioning into forever homes.” Neighboring businesses and residents have provided an outpouring of support to Ms. Yemma and TCC’s volunteer leadership as the shelter has taken shape. To thank the communities of Brighton and Waltham (TCC’s headquarters), the shelter will display “cat art” from local students outside its front windows during its opening month. At the beginning, visits to the Brighton facility will be for adopters whose arrangements are finalized and by appointment. To fill out an adoption application, join TCC’s network of foster cat parents, or learn more about volunteering, please contact TCC at 781-899-4610 or see TheCatConnection.org.
