Manchester Denounces 'Racism Against the AAPI Community'

MANCHESTER, CT — In response to the "horrific acts of last week and the preceding months," the Town of Manchester has officially condemned "the acts of racism and hate crimes perpetrated against the Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander communities." The statement was released Wednesday. "We are outraged and saddened by the historical and recent acts of continued violence against the AAPI community. It is on all of us as a community to call out hatred when we see it," Mayor Jay Moran said. He continued, "On behalf of the Manchester Board of Directors, the Town of Manchester stands in solidarity with our Asian American and Pacific Islander neighbors in condemning anti-Asian sentiment and any acts of racism throughout the region and the nation. The Town of Manchester does not tolerate hate crimes or any form of discrimination against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders or any other groups in our community." The declaration called Manchester "a proudly diverse community that is committed to growing a community that is welcoming, equitable, and inclusive to all. The Town of Manchester expresses steadfast support for Asian American and Pacific Islander residents, who are a vital part of what makes Manchester such a great place to live, work, and visit."
