Description

The history and science behind Titanic's maiden voyage Learn about the history of this fascinating ship and the science behind what happened on its maiden voyage. See what life on the ship was like for the First, Second and Third-class passengers as well as crew members above and below decks. You’ll be assigned the identity of one of the real-life travelers on board! Experiment with buoyancy, the force that allows a huge ship like the Titanic to float. Assemble and test a radio transmitter along with a Morse code key—practice your hand at tapping out a message like the Titanic’s Marconi wireless operators. Taste some terrific Titanic treats: menu items served on board the majestic ship. Science facilitators from the Nevada Space Center will lead this exploration. All activities will take place in Gallery 4 at socially-distanced tables. All participants are required to wear masks, and hands-on activities will all be pre-packaged for each family group participating. Limited to eight family groups (because of health and safety restrictions, tickets will be sold per family group, not per person, and must be pre-booked). Tickets are required for all participants, students and guardians, and participants under 13 must be accompanied by at least one guardian per six students. Activities are targeted for 3rd through 6th grade students but fun for the whole family! Program activities start at 9:30 a.m. and do not repeat. After activities, visit the rest of the museum at your own pace!
