Coachella Valley History Museum Announces Reopening

INDIO, CA — The Coachella Valley History Museum announced that starting April 17 it will reopen from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. COVID-19 protocols will be in place to protect visitors and volunteers — masks will be required at all times, and there will be limited capacity per county and state guidelines, according to the organization. Private group tours will be available by appointment only. Additionally, the organization is now taking reservations for private events. The Coachella Valley History Museum is a historical campus that contains the 1926 adobe Smiley-Tyler House, the historic 1909 Indio Schoolhouse, and the world's only Date Museum. Other highlights include a desert submarine, a blacksmith's shop, pioneer farming implements and archives for the Historical Society. The spacious grounds also hold a variety of gardens, including a Memorial Date Garden, Japanese Garden, the Geissler Rose Garden, the Jardin del Desierto (Desert Garden) and the Liberty Tree — the oldest Cork Tree in the Coachella Valley.
