No more than 1,000 hours for the season. No benefits except for accrual of one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked. TYPE OF WORK: This is a temporary position that supplements the District’s Utility Crew during the busy summer season. Work is primarily custodial in nature, spending roughly half of the day independently cleaning public restrooms, emptying trash cans, and landscaping grounds. Assists full-time Port Maintenance Workers in performing a variety of general facilities and equipment maintenance tasks. EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: KNOWLEDGE OF: Facilities maintenance and janitorial work; general construction, mechanical equipment and hand tools and their proper uses; and safe working practices in a maintenance environment. ABILITY TO: Follow directions with reading and writing skills to accomplish desired tasks; do heavy manual labor; utilize hand power tools in building and facility maintenance; exercise good judgment in the operation of equipment and in completing jobs independently; and operate various motorized equipment. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid California Driver’s License. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Active physical work without prolonged heavy exertion, but with continuous exposure to unpleasant elements such as dust, mud, fumes, odors, dampness, raw or treated sewage, noise levels, or outside weather conditions. On feet most of the time involving bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces; frequent lifting of objects up to 25 lbs, with occasional lifting of objects weighing over 50 lbs. Must be able to communicate information to other workers via radio. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: PASS: Medical Exam, Drug Test and Background Check.
