Description
FREMONT, CA — An armed robbery suspect was shot to death by a Fremont Police officer on Highway 84 Wednesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Fremont Police Department issued an alert just after 3 p.m. asking people to stay away from Highway 84 because of police activity.
It was later determined that the spot of the shooting was under the jurisdiction of the CHP.
The shooting happened "following a pursuit that ended on eastbound SR-84, west of Newark Boulevard," the CHP said in a news release. "The vehicle being pursued had been reported stolen and was associated with an armed robbery. The suspect, who was in possession of a firearm at the time of the incident, sustained fatal injuries."
While the CHP is the primary investigating agency into the officer-involved shooting, both the Fremont Police Department and the Alameda District Attorney's Office will conduct independent investigations.
No other injuries were reported.
