COBB COUNTY, GA — Cobb County residents can get their questions answered about the county's new COVID-19 rent relief program this Thursday. Cobb commissioners approved a $22.8 million federal grant program last month to help residents with rent and utility payments, and now they are offering a chance for residents to ask questions about the program. Through the program, five nonprofits — Star-C Programs, MUST Ministries, HomeFree-USA, the Center for Family Resources and Sweetwater Mission — will each give out more than $4 million in grant money to landlords and utility service providers on behalf of struggling tenants. Guest speakers at the virtual town hall will include Chief Magistrate Judge Brendan Murphy explaining the eviction process; Sheriff Craig Owens sharing his office's response; and a representative from each of the five nonprofits explaining the program, Cobb officials said. The virtual town hall is slated for 6 p.m. Thursday via the county's Facebook page and YouTube channel. The meeting will be available for playback for those who cannot watch live. There will be a question-and-answer session after, and residents can submit questions in advance to [email protected]. The five nonprofits have been sorting through the new requirements and crafting applications, so the program is still not yet open for residents to apply.
