Description
More Green Columbus' Earth Day Volunteering with CGB and FLOW by cleaning up the tree nursery, removing invasive species and planting trees Columbus Gives Back invites you to join us at Godown Park to help Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed (FLOW) clean up the tree nursery, remove invasive species and plant a few trees. Since our Columbus Gives Back group will not be the only group at this project: To help manage volunteer sizes, we ask that you also sign up at Earth Day Columbus. When: Sunday, April 11, 1pm - 4pm Event Leaders: [email protected] Where: Godown Park Worthington Tree Nursery, 6099 Godown Road, Columbus, OH 43235 (To the right of the dog park) What to Wear: Wear long sleeve pants and shirts, bring gloves if you have them, and plan to follow health dept. guidance (masks, social distance) for COVID safety. We will have trash bags, tools and some gloves/vests. COVID-19 Precautions: Due to the current stay-at-home advisory in place in Franklin county, Columbus Gives Back is limiting the number/type of events on our calendar through the end of the year. All Columbus Gives Back volunteers are required to wear face masks and observe social distancing as appropriate to complete volunteer tasks. Volunteers who are sick, especially with fever or the growing number of Covid-19 symptoms, should stay home. We highly recommend that our volunteers wash their hands, use hand sanitizer at the beginning and end of the event, and/or wear gloves. We will follow whatever safety policy our nonprofit partners have in addition to the safety precautions listed above. Any volunteers determined to neglect these precautions and put other volunteers or the people we serve at risk will be dismissed from the event. In an effort to keep our volunteers, event leaders, and non-profit partners safe we ask that each volunteer or event leader sign up for no more than one event in a seven-day period, in order to limit the number of individuals you come into contact with if you are exposed to Covid-19. If you were exposed before or test positive after having participated in a CGB event, please contact the event leader or reach out to [email protected] so that we can best support contact tracing efforts. About Green Columbus: Building on the success of the first Earth Day Columbus in 2007, Green Columbus has engaged the Central Ohio community to contribute more than 100,000 hours of green citizen service. Earth Day Columbus is growing every year and is a staple in community engagement and beautification for Columbus. About FLOW: Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed was formed as a non-profit 501c3 in August 1997. Our mission is to keep the Olentangy River and its tributaries clean and safe for all to enjoy, through public education, volunteer activities, and coordination with local decision-makers. About Columbus Gives Back: Columbus Gives Back coordinates group volunteer events with local non-profits, organizes philanthropic happy hours to raise support and awareness for our non-profit partners, and participates in other philanthropic events while emphasizing our social twist: to have fun with volunteers new and old during and after events in the hopes of creating a culture of community engagement amongst our target audience of young professionals. #SocialTwist: Social Twists have been suspended until further notice, but typically we will also encourage volunteers to join us afterwards for food and drinks to better get to know the other cool folks in our group! Rather we encourage each of our volunteers to support local business during this time.
